After another couple of hair-pulling days, in which I relearned that (1) postscript strings are mutable, and (2) somedict /somekey get
returns a reference to a string rather than a copy, you can now tinker at the “cs>” prompt until you get a working program, (/tmp/myprog.ps) savesession
, and once editing the cruft out of it, inserting a shebang line such as #!/home/defaultuser/bin/cs
into it, and finally chmod +x /tmp/myprog.ps
, you have a finished, pre-tested, program. Not even Python gives you that, to my knowledge anyway.
